Solving a Real-world Problem
Our Ministry of Education has recently announced a project called A Tablet for Every Student. So next school year we will finally ditch the old paper books and use ebooks instead. When I shared this information with my students the first question was what will those books look like. Indeed, what kind of ebooks will we study from. On a brainstorming session we came to an idea of how would a perfect e book look like. We thought of different learning styles and how to combine all in a single book. And we came to the idea of an endless book with embedded in whiteboards and OneNote notebooks, podcasts and videos, a grammar book and a dictionary, games and activities. An interactive infographic. So the sugestion was what if we created our own ebook.

Students as Designers of ICT Product
So students have finally dropped their out-of-date paper books and they created perfect e books that they envisioned as interactive infographics. Creating an interactive infographic from a scratch is a hard work.We used PowerPoint shapes and colors to create digital paper, clipart and create a story. One group of students has created scarp paper and background templates, another group worked on hand-made clipart and finding appropriate fonts for the story and the third group works on creating the story and combining all the elements (paper, clipart, fonts) into a long infographic using Photoshop. Finally the infographics are attached on Thinglink and are linked to podcasts, videos, online whiteboards, notepads, mind maps, activities and games that would be used on the lesson. These interactive infographics are available on students' smart phones, tablets and computers. So now students can learn on the go.

Collaboration
Students have been assigned tasks according to their learning style.
The visual learners are in charge of creating digital paper and hand-made clipart using PowerPoint shapes and colors.
The auditive learners create podcast
The tactile learners create interactive Infographics connecting the background templates with the hand-made clipart, they create a story and make it interactive.
Students share ideas and give feedback using windows 8 app Edmodo . The visual learners collaborate on a singular PowerPoint presentation using One drive or Facbook Docs application. They also collaborate with students from all over the world using Skype in the classroom. The auditive learners add podcasts with the windows 8 app Soundcloud and the tactile learners link the podcasts and videos to the Infographics with Thinglink

Communication
Peer to peer communication
Students use Edmodo application, Facebook groups, Facebook Docs, One drive and Skype to communicate to each other, plan and brainstorm, suggest ideas, choose concepts, share their work, work on the same presentation, and give each other feedback.

Students teacher communication
I use the windows 8 applications Nearpod for presentations and quizzes and Socrative for quizzes and exit notes. These windows 8 applications have allowed me to evaluate students' work and understanding of the concept and the idea they have worked on. Students are often times asked to do a short quiz using one of these applications on their smart phones or tablets.

Communicating with the audience
Students have created a Facebook page , a twitter account , Pintrest board , Google plus page , Youtube channel Thinglink page Skype lesson Teaching with Infographics and a website http://infographing.weebly.com/ where they share their work and progress with their audience (mostly teachers and students that use these materials in and out of class)

Knowledge Construction
How can I use this in a real world?
Creating interactive Infographics is an interdisciplinary activity since students except from knowing English they also need to be very skillful with PowerPoint, and some Windows 8 applications like Edmodo, One drive, Facebook Docs, Thinglink, Soundcloud, Nearpod and Socrative, so that they can complete their tasks successfully. Students develop entrepreneur skills.
Not only did we create an interactive ebook and transformed the way we learn fundamentally, we also found a way to solve a more global problem. How to save trees.
